The region offers a diversity of settings to consider for ceremonies and receptions, and is one of Queensland’s most popular holiday destinations, so it’s not surprising that the Sunshine Coast is also a sought after destination for wedding celebrations.

Where is the Sunshine Coast located?

The southern end of the Sunshine Coast region begins at Caloundra which is just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane city, and extends north to Cooloola, located close-by to Fraser Island. An expanse that covers over 100 kilometres of beaches and includes the Blackall Range – a hinterland area which is perched high above the coastline, the Sunshine Coast is an attractive location to hold a wedding or event.

Boasting an average of 300 days of pure sunshine, it’s no wonder how the region got its name! Recorded average temperatures range from 21 to 29 degrees Celsius, giving locals and tourists plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sunshine. From pristine coastline, with sandy beaches and seaside resorts, to charming hinterland towns boasting panoramic views and breathtaking landscapes, the Sunshine Coast is a perfect mix of coast and country and an ideal location to celebrate your wedding day. The Sunshine Coast Airport is centrally located just five kilometres north of Maroochydore and is open for daily fights from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

Outdoor wedding ceremonies

One of the most appealing factors of the region is the opportunity to hold an outdoor ceremony, and the Sunshine Coast has a multitude of outdoor options available including seaside and rural country locations, and most beach, foreshore areas, reserves and parks are also available for ceremonies.

If you would like to hold your wedding at a beach, a reserve or parkland area you are required by Council to apply for a permit. By visiting the Regional Council website, you can view the most popular areas to hold an outdoor ceremony, and get a better understanding of the fees, booking protocols and conditions set down for these areas. You can even download the wedding ceremony application form from the same website to confirm your booking.

Visit www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au for further information.

Noosa lays claim to offering the most outdoor ceremony locations available in one specific area. Beach accesses, national parks and river locations make up the varied positions on offer to couples considering a Noosa wedding.

The map below shows popular outdoor ceremony areas available in Noosa Heads and for more information on permits and fees associated with an outdoor ceremony on the Sunshine Coast visit www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Indoor ceremony options

Many Sunshine Coast venues will offer dedicated covered ceremony area options within the property, which also gives you the opportunity to host all your wedding day festivities in the one location. There are also dedicated church ceremony venues located on the Sunshine Coast, giving you the option of a traditional ceremony and then a reception close by.

Helpful information for your wedding guests

Many weddings on the Sunshine Coast are destination events, and the bride and groom often travel from other areas in Queensland, interstate and sometimes from overseas to celebrate their wedding day. So it makes sense to include some specifc details for your guests to be included with your invitations. Many of your guests may have never been to our beautiful Sunshine Coast, so a little bit of information to help them navigate their way to your ceremony and reception locations could prove to be beneficial.

With many of the groves located on Noosa’s famous beach boardwalk, a map included in your stationery elements could be a cute way to add some additional styling to your day while also ensuring accessible information. Think about winding back the ceremony time by 15 minutes for your invitations to make sure all guests are in place before you start to walk down the aisle. It’s a great idea to make sure you send out save the date cards also, allowing your guests to confirm accommodation and travel itinerary as early as possible. Consider providing guests with accommodation links and a list of potential choices for places to stay nearby. The Sunshine Coast is one of the most popular locations for weddings, so it’s always a great idea to prompt everyone to get organised as soon as possible!
